Do EU sanctions on almost 3,000 people stop applying on 22 September?
They can. The date written into the Council decision is 22 September 2026, and without all 27 member states agreeing, the list simply lapses. Slovakia and France are blocking over two names. In Lithuania, more than 21.994 million euros is frozen on that same legal basis.
What is at stake is not a new sanctions package but an old list that has to be renewed unanimously every six months. This time it has failed twice in a row, and only days are left.
This piece separates what the legal act says, what is a diplomats' account, and what would physically change in Lithuania.
